My Little Space on Cyberspace

East Coast Park Singapore

East Coast Park is actually a very long 15km beach front stretching from after the Marina Bay all the way down to the National Sailing Centre. Getting to the park can be tricky if you are not driving as separating the park from the other parts of the island is the East Coast Parkway (ECP) Expressway. The easiest and most common way to get to the park is by the underpass behind Block 89 across the road from the back of Parkway Parade Shopping Centre.

This park is popular amongst the locals during the weekend where you find visitors to the park cycling, rollerblading, flying kites, camping and barbecuing on the beach front.

There are seafood restaurants located near the beach front where you can dine in or enjoy Al Fresco experience

Or you could enjoy Waterskiing in the comfort of a lake at Ski360 Cable Ski Park

Or spend the relaxing day building sand castles

The Bedok Jetty is probably the longest fishing jetty stretching some 250m into the Singapore Straits. It is popular with anglers of all ages. If you do not fish, it is also a great place to enjoy the sunset

There are shelters along the jetty where you can shade yourself from the hot sun and enjoy the sea breeze while fishing

A Visit to Marina Bay Sands

The Marina Bay Sands  is Singapore’s Second Integrated Resort after Resort World Sentosa. This is so far the most expensive resort in the world built at the cost of closed to US$6.3 billion. The Marina Bay Sands resides on prime commercial land in downtown Marina Bay and occupies a land area of about 6 million square feet and boost a hotel with 2,561 rooms. The Resort had a soft opening on April 27 2010 and was officially construction was completed in Feburary 2011. Access to the resort is by public (Bus 97, 106 and 133) or private transport, through the newly opened Bayfront MRT on the Circle Line or by walking through the Helix Bridge.

The Resort World Sentosa is a more family oriented integrated resort, Marina Bay Sands is more business oriented.  Marina Bay Sands boost world class eateries, ArtScience museum, Skypark, conventional halls and theater.

The Marina Bay Sands certainly change the skyline of Singapore forever.

There has been significant changes to the Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort since I’ve taken these photos in May 2010. I will certainly revisit the resort and update the pictures in the near future.

Gardens by the Bay Preview (November 14 2011)

The Gardens By the Bay is an initiative by the Singapore Government to rejuvenate  the Marina Bay area. It spans some 101 hectares and located right between Marina Bay Sands and the Marina Barrage. Once completed, it will have two domed shaped temperature cooled conservatories and host a variety of plants from all around the world. That’s not all, the park would contain several other themed gardens and lakes and the huge man-made super trees. This attraction would be opened in June 2012 so watch for it. It would transform the landscape of Singapore.

As an attendee of the World Orchid Show 2011, we were given the privilege to preview one of the domes.

The most previous structures of the Gardens By the Bay is the Super Trees. You could see the Singapore Flyer on the bottom right of the picture above.

Behind the Gardens by the Bay is Marina Bay Sands. There is a skybridge from the Resort to the Garden. We wanted to walk that day but it was drizzling so we decided to take the free shuttle bus which ferried us from the World Orchid Show held in Marina Bay Sands Exhibition Hall.

Guarding the Gardens by the Bay are some craved fierce animals.

The domed conservatory which we visited.

After walking around the conservatory, I suddenly saw people making way on the pathway and standing on the sides. At first, I thought they were queuing for something until I saw this buggy moving by.

On the buggy in dark jacket was Mr Lee Kuan Yew, the former Prime Minister of Singapore who founded modern Singapore and through his direction transformed Singapore from a backward island nation with no natural resources into what it is today.

The 1,000 years old olive tree which was transported to the dome. Although the tree is still alive, it no longer bears fruit.

A Walking and Singing Orchid was singing to a shy little girl.

The Super Tree structure lighted up.

There is a lot of plants and trees species in the dome but I will keep this as a preview. Drop by in June 2012 and be awed.
